When the outdoor temperature is low and humidity is high, water turns into ice crystals due to a low surface temperature on the heat exchanger. If too much frost forms on the unit, its energy efficiency will be reduced.

To keep the unit running efficiently, Automatic defrosting is activated. During Automatic defrosting, melted water drains out of the outdoor unit.
